Welcome to this month’s edition of ProTech IT News. We have had a lot going on this month. Our engineering team has been busy with Data Center upgrades and I have had three IT industry speaking engagements. Phew . . . hectic.

Our technical team has been working diligently on fine-tuning our data center operations and our web development practice. I am super excited about the technological advances that are upon us right now. I just wish we all had more time! Things are moving so fast . . . I should be used to that by now but I guess it still surprises me.

Just a few weeks ago, we hosted a special Lunch & Learn at Pole Position Raceway in Corona. We had a great time sharing knowledge about Remote Backup and Disaster Recovery with local companies. Our 20 or so attendees were given the opportunity to race high-performance go-karts and win a brand new iPod Nano, along with each one receiving a voucher for 2 free hours of IT support. To learn more about the event, check out this month’s Spotlight section.

In the articles this month, you’ll find cost savings and increased productivity from new VoIP phone systems, ways to never lose another important file, and a list of laws to laugh at that affect us all. (I know it sounds odd, but you just can’t help but crack a smile when you read it.)

Enjoy!

Laws You May Choose to Ignore

Moore's law describes an important trend in the history of computer hardware: that the number of transistors that can be inexpensively placed on an integrated circuit is increasing exponentially, doubling approximately every two years. The observation was first made by Intel co-founder Gordon E. Moore in a 1965 paper. The trend has continued for more than half a century and is not expected to stop for another decade at least and perhaps much longer.

You probably thought you knew every single law of nature, science, and humanity , but we at Accent Computer Solutions have uncovered some additional laws that you may not have heard previously.

VoIP Can Dial In Rewards for Your Growing Business

Your company's IP network already enables your employees to use the internet, e-mail and web resources on the job. But did you know the very same technology can help your company save money -- by transmitting phone calls through voice data in packets using IP rather than a traditional phone line?

If your company is like many SMBs, you're on a fast track of growth but want to keep your business expenses from running amuck. One way to achieve both goals is through a robust technology called Voice over IP (VoIP).

This technology was once touted as a solution of the future, and today is already proving its worth for many SMBs seeking to prepare for the future.

What exactly is VoIP?
Simply stated, VoIP converts the voice signal from a user's telephone into a digital packet that travels over the internet, and then converts the data packet back to voice on the receiver's end. The benefits of this technology are numerous -- making it perfect for businesses that want to switch from standard (analog) phone calls to a more cost-effective alternative. Here's why:

Never Lose Another File
Four Reasons Why the Time Is Right to Adopt Document Management

Where's the latest client services contract? What's the medical history on this patient? Where is the case filing from last year's lawsuit? Why can't we seem to find the documents we need?

If you're like most small to midsize businesses today, you can recall a time when you had to rummage through thousands of files -- just to get your hands on the one you needed. And if you're a company in the highly regulated accounting, finance or healthcare world, you may encounter this frustrating scenario almost every day.

Worse yet, the amount of data produced and retained by companies continues to soar -- with no real end in sight.

So how can your company become more effective at organizing and locating important documents and files -- while reducing the headaches and risk associated with lost documents?

One great place to start is with an automated document management solution -- a solution that dramatically increases accessibility, security and cost savings.

If you're like most SMBs, however, you're intrigued by the idea of switching from traditional paper to digital documentation -- but view the process as a daunting, and perhaps costly, task.

The good news is that reduced pricing structures and new product innovations can eliminate many of your worries. Consider the five reasons why now may be the time for your company to adopt a document management solution.
