Note from the
President |
|
Welcome to this month’s edition of Protech IT
News. A lot has been going on in the IT world. This
month Windows 7 shipped. I’m sure most of you would
really like to just continue using XP and ignore another
attempt by Microsoft to “make our lives easier, better,
and faster.” The truth is it would be way better to get
a new pc with Windows 7 on it and have it work, than
having to downgrading the operating system to XP. Well,
we will all have to wait and see how the integration
with our current systems works. Join us on November 20th
for our Windows 7 Lunch & Learn and get better idea
of how the pieces all fit together.
This month we
have experienced quite a rush of server related issues.
It seems that many businesses have waited to do the
required maintenance, support, or upgrades and found
themselves in emergency predicaments. Let me tell you,
we do not like the emergencies any more than you. Chaos
is never a good situation when trying to resolve IT
related problems. Do yourself a favor and have your
infrastructure looked at. Just because it is not broke,
does not mean there is not a goblin under the hood wait
to jump out.
Happy
Halloween!

Don't Stop fortifying against
risk Four ways to mitigate risk in a tough
economy
Every
business deals with risk. But medium-sized businesses,
with smaller IT staff and tighter operating budgets are
often more exposed to risk than larger companies. This
reality is never more evident than in a down economy:
When the repercussions of a business disruption are as
grave as they are, how do you insulate your business
from risk?
"For
mid-sized businesses, the financial impact of business
disruptions is tremendous," said Anil Miglani, senior
vice president, AMI-Partners. "We estimate that through
security breaches and data loss alone, medium-sized
businesses worldwide lost approximately US$4.7 billion
in 2008." |
