Welcome
to this month’s edition of ProTech IT News.
I know that all of
you are as concerned as I am about the economic environment and
the financial rollercoaster that we seem to be on.
Lately, everyone
has been thinking about how to cut costs without cutting corners.
I have spent a lot of time with business owners and IT managers
working on how to get more from their investments. There is the
tendency to hold off on new projects and that is understandable,
but make sure you understand the risk. Some of our clients have
waited a little too long and are experiencing the negatives
associated with ageing equipment and out-of-date software. If we
must keep our systems longer to avoid the cost of purchasing new,
then by all means, the equipment must be managed. Older systems
should be tuned up and managed to get the most out of them.
Support structures and technology planning is what will keep the
downtime and disruption to a minimum.
On the subject of
cost reduction, we’re hosting an event for business professionals

The Elephant Named Sharepoint

of us have heard the fable about the blind men and the elephant. When the men
were asked to describe what an elephant looked like the descriptions ranged from
a snake to a tree to a fan depending on whether the blind man had touched the
trunk, the leg or the ear. What does an ancient fable like this have to do with
technology? It’s the same problem we have when we try to explain to you how
useful a tool Microsoft SharePoint can be to your business. SharePoint is so
flexible and has so many uses; we often have trouble describing it in a way you
can get the whole picture.
