Happy
Holidays to All!
Well, by now most of the
holiday hustle and bustle is over. I know we still have New
Years Day to look forward for most of us, things will slow down
between now and New Years Day.
At my house, I had the
wonderful privilege of hosting both of my children and my
parents for Christmas Day. What a great way to spend the
holidays! Sharing stories, football scores, Christmas toys, nice
food and drink, and especially the love of my family. What more
could one ask for?
Talk about busy . . . We
have been really busy this year end. It seems like this year
there has been a lot more last minute meetings and projects. I
am thankful for this as well. Many associates in the IT Services
world have slowed or stopped this year. We have been lucky to
continue adding services and clients to our portfolio. I have
tried very hard to increase our value to our customers even when
it seems the financial impact is too much to overcome. We keep
trying…I know if I make us better for you, we will all benefit
in the long run.
I am extremely excited
about the New Year. In January we are hosting our first lunch
and learn at our new Riverside Office. For those of you in the
Riverside, Corona, and San Bernardino area, come on over and
enjoy a free lunch in a very nice conference room and learn
about the benefits of Windows 7 and other Microsoft Hosted
Applications. We have had two Very Successful Windows 7 meetings
at our Rancho Office in November and December so if you could
not make it to Rancho Cucamonga, join us in Riverside on the
22nd of January.
Have a GREAT New Year

Ultimate Tips for Web
Searching in Less Time

Most
of us use search engines every day, but few know how to make
the most of those searches. Given the enormous amount of
information on the Internet, almost any search you do will
yield thousands, or even millions of results. But if they
aren’t the right results, they don’t do you any good. And
who has time to spend trawling through loads of “sort of
useful” information?
Fortunately, there
are a few tricks to help you better focus your searches so
you get the information you need in less time. Here are five
search engine best practices to try next time you need to
search.
1. Use quotes
to find a specific phrase
In order to find an entire phrase in a search, enter
quotation marks (“ ”) around the terms. For example, the
search query butter apples orange will yield results
containing any mention of those words, whereas “butter
apples orange” returns only results where those words appear
together and in that order in either the title, the URL of
the website or the keywords in the document.
2. Use + or –
for more targeted word searches
Adding the plus sign (+) or the word AND before a word will
require that it be found in all of the search results.
Conversely, the minus sign (–) before a word, or the word
NOT, requires that it not be found in the search results.

Three Ways to Thrive in an
Uncertain Economic Upturn
reprinted with permission from the HP Enterprise Center

Signs
of a possible upturn are reenergizing businesses. However,
this recession isn’t ending in a sharp economic upturn.
“We know that the
fall has stopped, but we are not yet sure whether the
economy is going to grow again fast,” said Olivier Chatain,
assistant professor of management at The Wharton School at
the University of Pennsylvania. Because consumers have lost
money and are still worried about their jobs, “it’s not
clear that demand will bounce back very fast.”
The hopeful
outlook is overshadowed by a projected slow recovery riddled
by ups and downs. So, businesses are struggling to adapt to
a new normal: uncertainty. Experts offer advice in three key
areas for operating in a hopeful, but uncertain, economy.
1. Staff up strategically
As business improves, consider hiring again–carefully.
“You can’t cut
your way to the future,” said Mateen Greenway, a fellow at
HP Enterprise Services. “You have to cut your way to
survival and then rebuild your organization as you come out
of the recession," said Greenway, who is also HP Enterprise
Services' chief technologist for defense, security,
government and healthcare for European, Middle Eastern and
African countries. |
